Welcome to the 5th and 6th grade math website.
Homework completion is crucial for success in math. Homework is assigned Monday – Thursday. Most often, no homework is assigned on Friday for the weekend, though make-up work may be given. Students are not penalized for incorrect answers on homework, as long as a serious effort was made. Students will earn full credit for their homework as long as they turn it in the week it was assigned; they will receive partial credit for homework turned in later. Most homework will be assigned in the enVisionMATH workbook that each student has been assigned.
Equal weight is given to homework, class work, and tests. For those who may struggle on tests, homework and class work can be two strong pillars, supporting their grades.
We’ll be using the enVisionMath series. Each student has his or her own homework workbook. Occasionally, other texts will be used to supplement the envision series.
Each student must have a folder and spiral-bound notebook just for math. All class work should be completed and kept in the notebook. Additionally, all students will need pencils for math.
Students may earn extra credit in math by finding and writing about examples of the math we’re currently studying in the real world. For example, if we are studying surface area, and a student calculates the surface area of a famous building, this written work would earn extra credit.

In robotics we employ collaborative problem-solving to design, construct, and program robots. Using the Lego Mindstorms product and software, students pursue self- and peer-directed inquiry of engineering and programming challenges. Robotics fosters teamwork, logical reasoning, and independent thinking in students of varied age levels, abilities, and learning styles.
